3 Things I’ve Researched For The Elemental’s Guardian – Part 1
Happy December, everyone!
Being a steampunk author, I’ve done a lot of research, especially when it comes to the Victorian era. And being a contemporary fantasy/urban fantasy author, I also did a lot of research to be as accurate as possible as far as the “contemporary/urban” parts go.
So I thought you’d like a sneak peek into my research to see what I’ve learned to make The Elemental’s Guardian the best it could be.
- 1. Ejecting out of a jet.
Did you know the turbulent process of ejecting puts pilots at serious risk of injury? It blows a person up and out of the cockpit with enough force to bruise shoulders on the harness straps and even break collarbones. And a random bit of interesting info I stumbled upon but (thankfully) didn’t need to use: in newer two-seat jets, activating one ejection seat triggers the other, but in the older models, the co-pilot sitting in the rear needed to go first—otherwise the rockets from the front pilot’s seat would burn them! - 2. Stimulation of fracture healing.
Did you know stimulation with EMF (electromagnetic fields) accelerates the early phase of fracture healing? Studies have shown that electrical stimulation attracts the two oppositely charged ends of the bones to each other, promoting new bone growth and fusion, which leads to healing. The number of PubMed articles I read about it is pretty impressive. - 3. Cloud and lightning development.
Did you know lightning can—and often will—strike the same place twice? Contrary to the common expression, lightning strikes can occur in the same place multiple times, and sometimes during the same storm.
Let me know what your most surprising takeaway was, and I’ll post a few more of these later!
