Meet the Characters: A Deep Dive into the People of Project Elementals 2 – Part 1
In part 2 of my contemporary fantasy trilogy, new characters make an appearance, each with their unique abilities and roles in the unfolding story. I can’t wait to introduce them to you! In this post, I’ll first reintroduce you to the main 3 characters of part 1, The Elemental’s Guardian.
Ferenc Janos
Occupation: Freelance pilot/Guardian of the air elemental
Age: 30
Description:
– Eyes: Honey-colored
– Hair: Short, tousled, blond
– Body: Tall, lean, toned
Location: Florida
Interests: Crossword puzzles, trivia, learning, planes, animals
Enneagram: 5w6
Role in part 1: Ferenc, a freelance pilot, ran into Olivia—literally—with his jet, thousands of feet in the sky. He met her again on a Florida beach, where she informed him he’s the guardian of the air elemental. Naturally a skeptic, Ferenc quickly learned to believe and trust Olivia when masked individuals and dark, gnarly creatures started showing up, hunting Dormouse.
Personality: As an enneagram 5w6, Ferenc is perceptive and analytical, and he values knowledge. He has a cautious mindset and relies on his intellect (and the support of trusted allies) to navigate the complexities of life.
Role in part 2: Ferenc has come to terms with the fact he’s a guardian, but his world is turned upside down once more when the masked individuals return for Dormouse but end up taking Amy, his ex, instead. He’ll need to somehow keep a level head as he protects Dormouse, rescues Amy, and helps Olivia find a missing gatekeeper who could potentially get her the answers she’s been seeking since The Elemental’s Guardian.
Olivia Gillies
Occupation: Personal assistant
Age: 27
Description:
– Eyes: Green
– Hair: Platinum blonde, straight, mid-back, with bangs
– Body: Average height, lean, toned
Location: California
Interests: Spicy food, movies, organization
Enneagram: 8w9
Role in part 1: Olivia was told to find the elementals and guardians in a dream, and while she would’ve dismissed it as just that, the pull was strong enough to have her drop her job as a personal assistant and travel across the country to find the elementals and guardians. She found skeptical Ferenc and tried to convince him he was a guardian, especially as the masked organization encroached on Dormouse. She then played the role of a mentor as she trained Ferenc to use his abilities.
Personality: As an Enneagram 8w9, Olivia is strong and assertive, and she values autonomy. She uses her assertiveness when necessary and strives to maintain a sense of calm and stability in her environment.
Role in part 2: Olivia still doesn’t know why she was drawn to finding Ferenc and Dormouse, or how she knows how to manipulate air, but when she finds out a missing gatekeeper is her ticket to all her answers, Olivia sets on a world-wide search, along with the air elemental and her guardian.
Dormouse
Occupation: Air elemental
Age: 25
Description:
– Eyes: Dark blue
– Hair: Long, thin, black
– Body: Short height, gaunt form
Location: Florida
Interests: Food (especially pizza and sweets), helping others, naps
Enneagram: 9w1
Role in part 1: Dormouse, a homeless woman, first met Ferenc when she pulled him out of his panic attack, and then again when she tried to buy food after stealing his wallet. It took her a while to accept Ferenc’s help keeping her safe from the masked figures and their unnatural creatures, especially when he summons lightning to save her. She’s naturally quiet, but she managed to get Ferenc to open up and be vulnerable.
Personality: As an Enneagram 9w1, Dormouse is a peace-loving individual who hates confrontation of any kind. She has a strong sense of ethics and a desire to do what is right. However, she also struggles with indecisiveness, which makes it challenging for her to take a stand or make tough decisions.
Role in part 2: We got a faint taste of the powers she refuses to wield in part 1, and in part 2, Dormouse makes a few pretty big decisions that impact the tide of the events during their worldwide search for the gatekeeper.
Interactions & Relationships
Ferenc and Olivia: These two complement each other nicely. In part 1, Ferenc learned from Olivia to be more engaged, while Olivia learned from Ferenc to think of consequences more carefully before acting. Also, the playful banter between the two was just so natural, you’d think they’d been friends for centuries. In part 2, their friendship and banter aren’t much different as they continue to keep each other in check as their journey takes them across the world and beyond.
Ferenc and Dormouse: Ferenc continues to respect and enforce Dormouse’s boundaries in part 2 just as he had in part 1, both as her guardian and as a decent human being. Eventually, their connection intensified, and in part 2, Ferenc also ends up falling for her. Dormouse, naturally quiet and non-intrusive, does not reject him, but that part of their relationship is put on pause as the escalating events in part 2 unfold.
Dormouse and Olivia: These two seemed at odds, but their friendship was a sweet one in part 1. Olivia instantly became protective of Dormouse, like a mama bear with her cub, and Dormouse strangely gravitated toward Olivia, opening up to her like the force of nature Olivia is. In part 2, Olivia is still fiercely protective of Dormouse, and Dormouse continues to open up to her without even thinking twice.
Ferenc, Olivia, and Dormouse continue to play an important role in part 2 of the Elementals trilogy, their fates forever intertwined. But the new characters introduced in part 2 bring even more depth and intrigue to the story.
