3 Things I’ve Researched For The Elemental’s Guardian – Part 2
Welcome to part 2 of the things I’ve researched!
Being a steampunk author, I’ve done a lot of research, especially when it comes to the Victorian era. And being a contemporary fantasy/urban fantasy author, I also did a lot of research to be as accurate as possible as far as the “contemporary/urban” parts go.
Have a sneak peek into my research to see what I’ve learned to make The Elemental’s Guardian the best it could be.
You can see part 1 here.
- 1. Being struck by lightning.
Did you know that of every ten people hit by lightning, nine will survive to tell the tale? When someone is hit by lightning, only a tiny amount of electricity goes through the body. The rest travels around the outside. But even that brief exposure can cause internal injuries. - 2. The smell of outer space.
Did you know space has an odor? Technically, since space is mostly a vacuum, there aren’t many molecules to smell. However, several astronauts have reported a distinct scent after entering the shuttle’s air-lock, re-pressurizing, and removing their helmet. Reports say space smells like hot metal and seared meats, gunpowder, or even welding fumes. - 3. Beach rules.
Did you know fires are only allowed on the beach with a permit? They’re only allowed in certain areas of the city until 5 p.m. and are prohibited during sea turtle nesting season. Ideally, lighting should remain off throughout the night during hatching season, but if necessary, Turtle-Safe lighting—with orange or red lights—are less intrusive.
Let me know what your most surprising takeaway was!
