Book Review: Heart of Stone and Sea-Foam
BOOK REVIEW: HEART OF STONE AND SEA-FOAM BY TARA QUINN
While most beings cower in Melody Pryor’s—the daughter of a powerful siren clan—presence, Princess Lorraine, the heir to the Atlantis throne, does not. Intrigue blooms into an unlikely friendship between the two of them—and perhaps even something more . . . until a sailor falls from his ship in a storm and the two realize just how different they truly are once it comes down to the fate of the sailor’s life.
From the author of Kingdom of Sirens and Monsters, Tara Quinn gives us the history of Coral Klassan’s mother and her stepmother in this new villain origin story.
What I liked:
– The story. I am a sucker for villains and love me some villain origin stories. I loved Melody in KoSaM, and Quinn did not disappoint!
– The different POV voices. Just like with KoSaM, the different POVs are clear and true to the characters. There is no mistaking who is at the heart of each chapter.
– LGBTQ+ inclusivity. I love that the author has included LGBTQ+ friendliness in the story. Relationships are well explained to naturally fit into the world created to make it seamless from the original fairy tales we’re used to.
What I didn’t like:
– Queen Chora’s dethroning. I’m still a little confused about how exactly it came to be, and I have to admit that it was not at all what I’d expected. It felt a little underwhelming.
Overall:
– I enjoyed it, and I can’t wait for more from Quinn!
